DUNEDIN, FLA.–Dunedin Blue Jays center fielder Dalton Pompey got one of only nine 2013 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards on Thursday April 24, 2014.
Pompey of Mississauga Ontario is shown above receiving the award from Minor League Baseball President Pat O’Connor (left) with Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Field Coordinator Doug Davis (right) looking on.
He got the award for his errorless play in the outfield with the Class-A Lancing Lugnuts of the Midwest League.
“The credit is to my teammates and myself for working hard not only on the offensive side but the defensive side too,” said Pompey, “I really take pride in that.  When I am not hitting well I still have something to offer the team.”
Advancing to upper Class-A Dunedin in 2014 Pompey feels he is developing more as a player.
“I think I am really gaining that maturity, taking the struggles with the success, trying to run with it and stay consistent as possible.”
Pompey has yet to commit an error this season in Dunedin and is hitting .342 going into Thursday’s game with one homer 10 RBI with 10 stolen bases in 10 attempts.
