ABA Basketball comes to Tampa

Tampa, Fla. – It was announced last night the American Basketball Association (ABA) is expanding in Tampa.   The Luxury Box Restaurant was packed as the Tampa Bay Rain, the newest edition of the ABA held its first public press conference. 

Rain CEO Stephen Davis said, “We are going to things different when it comes to the league also (referring to his approach of running his restaurant) we are going to change the league, especially the ABA.”  Davis continued, “I just want you guys to know that we are very excited, we want to thank the ABA for allowing us to be part of this, we also like to thank the media for being here and supporting us we also like to thank all of our directors.”

Tree Rollins, who was GM of the Kentucky Colonels of the ABA  was present and asked, “Hello Tampa, are you ready for some basketball!?”  Rollins went on to say that the ABA has a lot of different rules and a lot of points, so get ready. 

Stephen Davis came back up to the podium to share the details of the Rain season:

  • The home season will consist of 15 games played at the Florida Fairgrounds Expo Hall
  • Season tickets go on sale Friday November 18th
  • Single game tickets are just $15.00, floor seats $60.00
  • Season tickets are around $200.00
  • 5% of season ticket sales will be donated back to the community through charities

Important Dates to mark your calander:

November 18th – Head Coach search starts

November 21st – Starts recruiting process, Mr. Davis will be visiting College games, NBA games and ABA games as well as internationally looking for the best players to bring to the Tampa Rain.

Jnauray 12th – Marketing campaign starts

April 1st – Open try-out

Between July & September – Four or five charity events (working on having an exhibition game at Busch Gardens on the property.

October 4th – First game of the season and first home game at the Expo Hall

Michael Davis Director of Youth and Community Affairs said, “I would like to thank you all for coming out…one of the things the Tampa Bay Rain wants to do is we want to be like the Green Bay Packers of football.   We want this to be a community thing maybe not the community ownership, a community involvement in everything we do… the first pro organization that is going to give a part of their proceeds back to the community.”   Davis went on to introduce Pastor Dean and Mr. Smith. Smith runs a computer mentoring program in Tampa that gives computer access to those not able to afford it.  “When you invest in Tampa Bay Rain, Tampa Bay Rain is investing in them”, Davis continued.
