handed pitcher to outfielder with his call up Tuesday by the Toronto Blue Jays.  Picked in 2002 by the Orioles, Loewen last pitched in a major league game on July 6, 2008 vs Texas when his already surgically repaired left elbow finally gave out.  As of today, Loewen has been off a major lague field for over 1,1158 calendar days. That’s over three years!

When Loewen plays in his first game for Toronto, who signed him to a minor league contract in 2009, he will join some pretty impressive company in making the switch.  Just two who have made the switch in the majors from the mound to a position are Babe Ruth and Rick Ankiel.
