Opening night of Shinedown’s 2019 headlining tour started in their home state of Florida on Wednesday, February 20th at Hertz Arena in Fort Myers, FL.

Hertz Arena, home of the Florida  Everblades hockey team opened their venue to the musical icons Shinedown. The supporting acts for this evening included artists Asking Alexandria, and Papa Roach. We arrived at the venue almost an hour before the doors opened and fans were already lined up around the building at each entrance to be part of an exciting night of music.

Both Shinedown and Papa Roach held meet and greet opportunities for fans to interact with them and have their pictures taken with the bands.  Asking Alexandria also gave fans a little treat when they decided to perform a free acoustic show in the greater Fort Myers area hours before they opened the show.

As the venue began to fill very quickly for the sold-out show, Asking Alexandria took the stage. Their set started off in a sea of red and yellow smoky hues as they cranked out some of their favorite hits for fans. Shredding guitars, beating drums and amazing voices rocked the crowd and warmed up the fans for the next two acts to come.

After a powerful 30 minute set, Asking Alexandria handed the stage over to the legendary rock band Papa Roach. Frontman Jacoby Shaddix serenaded the crowd for the start of their performance with the band’s classic hit “Last Resort.” Dark blue, and white lights took over the venue as the band rolled into other great hits including the songs “Getting Away with Murder, “Renegade Music, and “Scars” just to name a few. Throughout the night, Shaddix ran through the crowd and sang with the excited fans in the venue. As Papa Roach finished their set and left the stage, the highly anticipated headliners were hidden behind a white curtain as fans waited patiently for them to start.

After the white curtain was pulled, we were greeted with an amazing display of lights, pyrotechnics, and fire, along with the love of the band Shinedown. They started their set off heavy with the single “Devil” off their 6th studio album, “Attention Attention.” Their energy and music is contagious as I witnessed their fans singing each and every song Shinedown played during the evening.

Frontman Brent Smith is known for interacting with the fans during Shinedown’s shows and tonight was no different. A memorable experience happened during the song “Second Chance.” The band brought all their instruments to the front of the catwalk for fans sitting further away to see, but Smith had every fan in attendance hold up either a lighter, or a flashlight from their phone while singing this wholehearted tune to everyone. If I could share the vision, I would, but I know I was not the only one in the crowd who experienced goosebumps during the performance of this song.

During the evening, Shinedown played their big hits from their previous albums. These songs included “Diamond Eyes”, “Bully”,“45”, and “Simple Man”. Smith also the gentleman, made sure to shake hands and thank each photographer before going into the song “Monsters.” Shinedown ended the evening with “Brilliant” which should be the next single after the current single “Get Up.”

With a sold-out show and 18 of their top hits, Shinedown did not disappoint on the first night of their US tour. After seeing Shinedown in Estero, It was obvious that they are on the top of their game and a must see. If you didn’t catch them on this stop in Florida, they will be performing at Welcome to Rockville in Jacksonville in May. https://welcometorockvillefestival.com/
