BLUE JAYS AGREE TO TERMS WITH SS YUNEL ESCOBAR

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have agreed to terms with SS YUNEL ESCOBAR on a US $2.9 million contract for the 2011 season.

ESCOBAR, 28, appeared in 60 games for Toronto after being acquired from the Atlanta Braves on July 13, 2010. The Havana, Cuba native posted a .275 average with four home runs and 16 RBI as a Blue Jay last season. In four seasons in the Major leagues, the right-handed hitting shortstop has recorded a .289 career average with a .364 on-base percentage, including 33 home runs and 199 RBI.
