BLUE JAYS OPTION GOMES TO LAS VEGAS, RELEASE V. GUERRERO

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have optioned infielder YAN GOMES to Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League (AAA).

In 14 games this season, the 24 year old native of Sao Paulo, Brazil has hit .226 with three home runs and eight RBI.  This season the 6-2, 215 lb. right-handed hitter became the first Brazilian born player to appear in a Major League game.

Following last night’s game the club announced that LHP AARON LAFFEY and LHP EVAN CRAWFORD had been recalled from Las Vegas and that RHP CHAD BECK had been optioned to Las Vegas.

Also,  TORONTO BLUE JAYS have granted the request of outfielder VLADIMIR GUERRERO to be released from his minor league contract.

GUERRERO, 37, is now a free agent after hitting .303 in eight games with the Las Vegas 51s of the Pacific Coast League (AAA) with two doubles, a triple and four RBI.  He started his Blue Jays career in Dunedin of the Florida State League (A) where he hit .450 in four games with one double, four home runs and eight RBI.
