BLUE JAYS RECALL CECIL

    The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have recalled LHP BRETT CECIL from Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League (AAA) and have optioned RHP ZACH STEWART to New Hampshire of the Eastern League (AA).

        CECIL, 24, returns to Toronto after making 12 starts for the 51s, going 8-2 with a 5.26 ERA. In his last three starts posted a 1-0 record with a 3.27 ERA, including a shutout on June 13 vs. Colorado Springs. The Dunkirk, Maryland native began the season with Toronto, making four starts, posting a 1-2 record with a 6.86 ERA. The left-hander was optioned to Las Vegas on April 21 and will return to the rotation on July 30 vs. Pittsburgh. In parts of three seasons, Cecil is 23-13 with a 4.77 ERA, which includes a team leading 15 victories in 2010.

        STEWART, 24, made three starts in his initial trip to Toronto, posting a 0-1 record with a 4.86 ERA. The Wichita Falls, Texas native made his Major League debut on June 16 vs. Baltimore, holding the Orioles to two runs in seven innings. Stewart returns to New Hampshire where he spent all of 2011 prior to his debut with the Blue Jays. In 12 starts with the Fisher Cats the right-hander was 4-3 with a 4.39 ERA.

        RHP CARLOS VILLANUEVA will be moved to the July 2 start vs. Philadelphia, limiting his starts to two prior to the All-Star break and allowing the club to control his innings more efficiently.
