The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have signed LHP DARREN OLIVER to a one year contract worth US $4.0 million dollars for the 2012 season with a club option for US $3.0 million in 2013.
OLIVER, 41, spent the past two seasons with Texas Rangers, posting a 2.29 ERA in 51.0 innings with a 5-5 record and two saves in 2011. The Kansas City, Missouri native has held opponents to a .240 average over his past six seasons to go with a 2.97 ERA over that span, allowing just 161 hits in 209.1 innings. The left-hander has not posted a single season ERA above 3.00 since the 2007 season. The former 3rd round pick of the Texas Rangers in 1988, Oliver has played for eight teams in his career, including Texas on three separate occasions. In 654 career games, including 229 starts, the 18-year veteran has posted a 112-90 record with a 4.60 ERA.
To make room on the 40-man roster, INF MARK TEAHEN has been designated for assignment.
