With their first selection in the 2014 MLB Draft, the Toronto Blue Jays selected a pitcher from East Carolina University. On Wednesday, Jeff Hoffman will make his first start since graduating as a member the ECU Pirates.

Hoffman will pitch for the Dunedin Blue Jays, the club’s High-A affiliate.

Blue Jays General Manager Alex Anthopolous will assuredly be watching this start with attentive eyes. Hoffman worried Anthopolous in April because he appeared to be trying too hard to make an impression during an extended Spring Training outing in Dunedin, FL. After undergoing Tommy John Surgery just a few weeks before the 2014 Draft, the 6’4” right-hander certainly wants to prove to his new boss that he is healthy and capable of meeting the lofty expectations placed upon a first-rounder. Obviously, Wednesday’s outing will be just the beginning.
