BULLS TROUNCE TOWSON TIGERS

By on September 3, 2016

Tampa, Fla. — After a strong finish in 2015 the Bulls come into the 2016 season with high expectations.  After a 1 – 4 start in 2015, the Bulls won 7 of their last 8 regular season games,  winning the final four games by a combined score of 175-70 while being offensive,  averaging 503 yards. This offensive barrage  led to a contract extension for head coach Willie Taggart.

The Bulls came storming out of the tunnel led by the one and only “Rocky the Bull” and right into the endzone on the first possession of the game when Darius Tice took a Quniton Flowers pass 43 yards for 6 points.  Just 6 plays, 75 yards in just 1:39… and the Bulls make the statement.

It had the looks of a blowout early for the optimistic mind.  But the Maryland gang had other ideas when red-shirt freshman Justice Pettus-Dixon picked off an errant Flowers throw to slow the running of the Bulls but the tigers only managed three points off that turnover.

The Bulls led 14-3  at the end of fifteen minutes by adding a 7 yard Marlon Mack TD run.

In the second fifteen minutes the Bulls outscore the Tigers 2 to 1 for a 28-10 halftime lead and those optimistic rout-thinkers in the 1:39 have a 18 point lead.  The Bulls second stanza TD’s came courtesy of a Marquez Valdes-Scantling 51-yard TD reception from Quinton Flowers and Flowers added a 5-yard TD run.

Rodney Adams, Quinton Flowers and D’Ernest Jordan all score TD’s and the rout is on.  Just what the football doctor order, the season opener at home a crushing of a Colonial Athletic Association opponent.

When the final gun sounded the Bulls were 1-0 in 2016 with a 56-20 trumping of Towson.
