The National Football League today announced that Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Aqib Talib was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 8.

Talib earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording his fourth and fifth interceptions of the season, returning the first 45 yards for his first career touchdown and the second to help seal a Buccaneers victory. With his two interceptions, Talib became the first player in team history to have three-straight seasons with at least four interceptions (14 total) since CB Donnie Abraham did so from 1999-2001 (20 total). It was the second defensive touchdown on the day and the third of the season for the Buccaneers.

Talib now ranks second in the NFL with a team-leading five interceptions this season, which also ties his single-season career-high. Since entering the league in 2008, Talib is tied for the fourth most interceptions in the NFL with 14.

This marks the 34th time and the first since Week 12 in 2008 (CB Ronde Barber) that a Buccaneer has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week.
