Cecil’s Strong Springs continues, Jays top Phils 10-2

DUNEDIN, Fla.—Lefty Brett Cecil improved to 3-0 while fellow lefty Cole Hamels dropped

to 0-1 as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies 10-2 in Grapefruit League play.

Cecil’s era rose to 0.90 as he gave up his first run of the spring on four hits as he struck out two.

Hamels lasted just 3 1/3 innings allowing five runs, four earned on eight hits without walking or striking out a batter.

Yan Gomes led Blue Jays hitters going 3-3 with two doubles and three RBI while the Phillies Luis Montanez went 3-4 with a double.

2010 and 2011 major league home run champ Jose Bautista added a homer for the Blue

the elbow threw two scoreless innings allowing one hit and striking out one.

After the game manager John Farrell stated that Villanueva was fine.

TRANSACTIONS: The Jays assigned RHP’s Jerry Gil,  Deck McGuire and C Antonio Jimenez to their minor league camp while 1B Mike McDade and C Travis d’Arnaud were optioned to their minor league camp.

BLUE JAYS NOTES: With the Jays being off Monday RHP Henderson Alvarez will pitch in a Triple-A  game at the team’s Englebert Complex. Pitching for the Los Vegas 51’s Alvarez is scheduled to go five innings against the Empire State Yankees aka Scranton Wilkes Barre Yankees at 1 PM. …3B Brett Lawrie (left groin strain) is not on a time table yet for his return to game action.  “He’ll continue to get treatment on Monday,” said manager John Farrell, “We’re going to be sure there is nothing lingering there.”
