Dan Wheldon Forever in St. Peterburg’s Heart

St. Petersburg, Fla.–The Honorable Bill Foster, Mayor of the City of Saint Petersburg, in collaboration with the officials of the Honda Grand Prix of Saint Petersburg, American Honda Motor Company, and Indy Car dedicated a permanent memorial to Saint Petersburg resident, and Indy 500 Champion, Dan Wheldon.

Mayor Foster said, “Dan loved this city, and this city loved him, this monument will stand for generations to come as a remembrance of a great man.” Tim Ramsberger stated, “This monument, and this dedication ceremony will be forever a permanent moment in the history of the Honda Grand Prix of Saint Petersburg.

Susie Wheldon with help from sons, Sebastian, and Oliver unveiled the monument before a crowd of media, and well wishers. Susie thanked everyone for their support over the past several months, and stated, “I want the boys to know what a champion Dan was, but more importantly, what a great person, husband, and father he was.”

The memorial is located on the southeast corner of Bayshore Drive, and Albert Whitted Park in downtown Saint Petersburg.
