DUNEDIN, FLA. — On August 3, 2006 Dunedin, Florida became our nation’s First Purple Heart City and then on August 7, 2008 it dedicated its first Purple Heart Park at the corner of Main and Broadway in Downtown Dunedin.       Sunday August 7, 2022 was the 15th Purple Heart Ceremony held at the site with a crowd of almost a thousand in attendance to honor those veterans honored with the awarding of the Unites States of America’s oldest medal, the Purple Heart Medal.

Originally awarded on August 7, 1782 as the Badge of Military Merit, our nations first military award was changed on February 22, 1932, Washington’s 200th Birthday, to honor those wounded in action defending America including those in WW 1.

It’s still being awarded today to those who were wounded or killed in action defending the United States of America.
