Durham BullsThe Durham Bulls found themselves in first place of the International League South Division to start the month of August.

After going undefeated in their first home series of the second half, the Bulls looked to build on the momentum as they hit the road for a quick two game road trip.

The Bulls traveled 3 hours north to Norfolk, VA to take on South Division foe the Norfolk Tides. The Tides, the Triple A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles currently sit in last place in the South Division. The Tides blanked the Bulls 3-0 in the first game stopping the Bulls six game win streak. The Tides continued their good fortune against the Bulls sweeping the 2-game series by defeating the Bulls 2-1 in the second game. The loss dropped the Bulls to 6-13 against the Tides and 22-36 on the road this year.

After being swept by the Tides, the Bulls returned to the friendly confines of the DBAP for a 5- game home stand against the Norfolk Tides and the Gwinnett Braves.

The Bulls dropped the opening game of the 2-game series against the Tides, but responded in the second game behind designated hitter JP Arancebia. Arancebia had three hits and four RBIs, including a two run double and two run homer.

The Gwinnett Braves came into the 3-game series in 2nd-place, trailing the Bulls by 1.5 games in the South Division. The Bulls drop the opener of the three-game series 4-0, being shutout for third time in five games. The bats came to life in the 2nd game as the Bulls routed the Braves 10-0, blasting three home runs and scoring seven runs during the first three innings. Justin Marks pitched the Bulls to victory, throwing 6 2/3 scoreless innings while striking out seven. In just his second game with the Bulls since being optioned from Tampa Bay, catcher Curt Casali went 1-for-2 with a three run homer. The Braves took the rubber match of the three-game series 5-2 as the Bulls committed 4 errors.

The Bulls are now tied with Gwinnett for first place in the IL South Division and hit the road again for a 3-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox before returning home to take on the charlotte Knights.
