Florida Hospital North Pinellas’ Operation Sunshine takes Inaugural Drive

By on March 5, 2013

Tarpon Springs, FL (March 5, 2013)  – Operation Sunshine is a Sun Safety Program for the Pinellas/Tarpon Springs Community that was initiated by the Oncological Services program at Florida Hospital North Pinellas with the support of the Helen Ellis Memorial Foundation in 2012. Through Operation Sunshine, a mobile skin cancer screening program will focus on sun-safety education and on-site skin cancer examinations for the schools and industry in Pinellas County, as well as other community organizations.

This ground-breaking program at Florida Hospital North Pinellas proudly recognizes Sun Toyota of Holiday who generously donated a 2012 Toyota Tundra, dubbed the Sun Spotter that will travel throughout the county to schools and companies to perform on-site education and skin cancer screenings. Eventually this program will expand into other cancer screenings for lung, breast, colon, cervical and prostate cancers.

The Florida Hospital North Pinellas Cancer Screening Program continuously promotes health and awareness and actively participates in community activities that encourage consumer wellness for the reason that finding cancer early offers greater hope for a cure.

We are very happy to announce that the Sun Spotter will take its inaugural drive to Sun Toyota of Holiday on Wednesday March 6th from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM, in an effort to recognize Sun Toyota for their more than gracious donation of the vehicle that will allow for these detection services. As a thank you to the dealership and its employees, Rosemary Giuliano, ARNP and Director of Oncology at Florida Hospital North Pinellas, will accompany the hospital’s leading Surgical Oncologist, Dr. Douglas S. Reintgen, to perform skin screenings for the Sun Toyota team members.
