Gose New Home Just Five Miles Down the Road

By on August 1, 2010

DUNEDIN, Fl. (RSE)–For the second year in a row Philadelphia Phillies prospect Anthony Gose was mentioned in trade talks at the trade deadline.

Moving just five miles down the road from the Clearwater Threshers to the Dunedin Blue Jays both of the Class-A Florida State League Gose was able to spend  time for a bit of Q and A Friday night before his first game in the Blue and White.

How did it feel yesterday when they came up and told you that you are going in the trade?

DUNEDIN, Fl. (RSE)--Centerfielder Anthony Gose signs for his new fans Friday July 30, 2010 at the Dunedin Blue Jays-Ft. Myers Miracle game at Grant Field. Gose was acquired by the Blue Jays by way of the Phillies/Astros JA Happ trade.

“It was to Toronto, a shock, surprising.  I didn’t know I was going to end up here I thought I was headed to Houston with JA Happ and Jonathan Villar (for Roy Oswalt).  So coming to Toronto was a shock but it’s good to be here so I guess you could say a new beginning.”

If you think about it, Brett Wallace had a lot of good things said about him and he’s hitting pretty good in the coast league.  How about being traded for Brett?

“Well let’s start with the first trade that’s a big deal even to be involved in that trade,  and then turned around and be swapped for a future superstar is a big deal in any aspect of the game.”

Last year you were mentioned for Roy Halladay, then this year was there anything as it got near the trade deadline that got you synched that I am going someplace?

“I guess when I woke up at 3 o’clock in the morning yesterday (Thursday morning) I couldn’t sleep and was watching ESPN. A good buddy Dominic Brown hit his double, his first big league hit, many times over and over .   I couldn’t figure what was going on, I couldn’t catch it in my head and it was right in front of me.  A little bit later I guess it just hit me,  dawned on me, that today is the day, something is going to happen to me and hopefully it’s good.  It was and a big positive step in my life.”

Gose after he signed with the Phillies bought a home in the Holiday/Tarpon Springs area just north of Clearwater, a short commute from both ball parks and spring training sites.

Roy Halladay lives just north of Dunedin, he went last year and  now they have someone else that lives in the neighborhood (Gose)?

“I got to meet Halladay, he’s a great guy.  He lives around Lake Tarpon.”

DUNEDIN, Fl. (RSE)--Recently acquired center fielder Anthony Gose strikes out in his first at bat for Class-A Dunedin Blue Jay Friday July 30,2010 against the Ft. Myers Miracle. Formally with the Class-A Clearwater Threshers (Phillies), Gose was traded to the Houston Astros in the JA Happ trade then to the Toronto Blue Jays for 1B/3B Brett Wallace.

Right in your neighborhood isn’t he?

     “Not to far away.”

Yesterday (Thursday) it was meet and greet, everybody seems to be making you feel right at home?

“You get to see familiar faces after a while when you play these guys and then you get to join them as a teammate.  It still hadn’t set into my head yet, now when I go out there and play my first game it will really sink in that I am a Blue Jay.  I have had to catch myself at times saying you guys …but it feels good being a Blue Jay.”

Gose went 1-4 his first game with Dunedin, a single and two strike outs but covered center like a blanket.  He might be the new Vernon Wells in center for Toronto as Gose is only 19.
