Hill on the Hill – Scheduled to start Opener

ST. PETERSBURG, FLA.–Team Canada right hander Shawn Hill tossed three shutout innings striking out one and hitting a batter in a 8-0 win over St. Petersburg College on yesterday at the Huggins-Stengal Complex in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Hill posted a 9-2 record with a 4.52 ERA with Triple-A Las Vegas (Pacific Coast League) after a short stint in independent ball in 2012.  He is scheduled to start Canada’s first game in the World Baseball Classic qualifier on September 20 against Great Britain in Ragensburg, Germany.

Team Canada is now 2-0 against the collegians and will have just a workout day today before traveling to Sarasota for a 1 PM game Sunday against a squad of Baltimore Orioles minor leaguers at Ed Smith Stadium.
Team Canada leaves Tampa on Monday to fly to Regensburg, Germany to play in the World Baseball Classic qualifier starting on September 20.
