 Hyatt Named FSL Pitcher of the Year

 CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Florida State League has announced that former Clearwater Thresher Austin Hyatt is the 2010 FSL Pitcher of the Year. Hyatt, who was promoted to double-A Reading on August 10, went 11-5 with a 3.04 ERA and struck out 156 hitters in 124.1 innings for the Threshers this season

 The 2010 FSL All-Star Team and FSL Player and Pitcher of the Year were selected by the field managers, official scorers, and club writers that represent the league’s 12 teams.

 The University of Alabama product got off to a blazing start to begin 2010, going 6-1 with a 1.90 ERA and 53 strikeouts. His best outing of the year came on May 11 against Jupiter when he gave up just one hit in eight innings and fanned a career-high 14.

 Hyatt, a 15^th round selection in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, earned a promotion after registering a 5-0 record in his last nine starts. Over that period, the Georgia native notched a 0.83 ERA in 54.1 innings.

 Despite being absent from the FSL for nearly a month, Hyatt still ranks second in wins and third in strikeouts. He currently holds the league’s best WHIP at 1.09 and the second lowest opponent average against at .228.

 Also named to the 2010 all-star squad was former Clearwater centerfielder Anthony Gose, who was dealt to Houston on July 29 and then flipped to Toronto, winding up on its Class A Advanced Dunedin team. Gose played in 103 games with the Threshers and hit .263 with 11 triples and 36 stolen bases. Now with the Blue Jays, Gose continues to lead the FSL in triples (13), stolen bases (45), and runs scored (88).

 Both players also represented the Clearwater Threshers in the 2010 Florida State League Midseason All-Star Game.
