New Smyrna, Fla. — Twenty five Super Late Models tackled New Smynra Speedway’s high banked turns in an attempt to win the 15th and final Pete Orr Memorial trophy.  Anthony Campi  was fastest in qualifying, he would start 8th after the top 10 drivers drew for starting positions.  Dalton Sargent, coming off a second place finish in December’s Snowball Derby, would start on the pole, followed by Matt Craig, Anthony Sergi, Daniel Keene Jr, Stephen Nasse, Joe Boyd, David Garbo, then fast time setter, Anthony Campi.  Bobby Good, who has finished second in each of his last two races here starts tenth, ahead of Brad May, driving Bobby Sears number 9 for the first time.  Spence Davis starts 12th, David Rogers struggles in qualifying, starts 20th, Chili Bowl winner, Rico Abreu starts 23th in his first stock car start.

Dalton Sargent, driving Richie Waulthers famed number 5, takes the early lead.  Matt Craig drops into second, but the rest of the field is all over him as Sargent pulls away.  Third through tenth sees a very competitive start, and on lap 8 Craig can no longer hold them off.  First Keene gets by, then Boyd, then Campi and Nasse all go by Matt Craig.  Lap twelve and Campi slows with a deflating tire.  Before he can get off the track he is in the turn 2 wall.  Our first yellow flies.

On the restart, Sargent and Nasse get away, Keene and Good are 10 car lengths back.  They run like this till a quick caution for “No Brake” Jake Perkins  who slows on the track.  Good gets Keene on the restart as Sargent gets away again, with Nasse a very close second.  Behind the fast four, Anthony Sergi is all over Joe Boyd.  Boyd would later say Sergi pushed him high into the turn 4 wall.  Whatever happened, Boyd got into the outside wall and came across the track, taking out half the field.  At least six cars will not be able to continue.  Rogers, Craig, Davis, Boyd, and May all have damage.  Boyd, Davis, and Craig get the worst of it .

The restart sees Keene get by Good, again Sargent and Nasse are fastest.  Halfway as Nasse looks low, that is not how you do it here at NSS.  Nasse drops back and charges to the high side of Sargent.  He just taps Sargent’s right rear, enough to slow his momentum and Nasse is gone.  Clearly faster, Nasse pulls five car lengths on the number  5 as Keene and Good reel him in.  William Bryan makes his way into the top 5 as Chad Pierce, Tyler Scoffield, Will Gallagher, and Jake Perkins get together back in the pack causing another red flag.  Forty laps to go and Nasse pulls away on the restart, followed by Sargent and Good.  Keene and now Tyler Dippel round out the top five.  Sargent closes on Nasse, will he return the favor?  Entering turn 1 with 30 to go, Sargent does indeed return the favor.  He gets into the left rear of Nasse and goes by.  Nasse hangs onto the car and continues in second.  Nasse begins to close in on Sargent as the top three pull away from the rest.  It’s Sargent, Nasse and Good in the final quarter of the race.  Five to go and a caution as Dippel spins from fifth.

On the restart, Sargent wisely elects to start on the highside.  He gets loose coming to the green.  Nasse low, Sargent high heading to turn one, Good goes even lower and gets into Nasse.  Nasse spins and has a flat tire.   Keene gets into it and has damage as William Bryan gets the third spot.  The restart sees Sargent get the jump as Good spins his tires.  Good comes back and puts heavy pressure on Sargent.  Can Good finally improve on his last two finishes here at NSS?  On the last lap, coming off turn four, he looks low and makes a run.  Sargent takes the checkered flag by 5 feet over Good.

Chief tech inspector Ricky Brooks runs a tight shop.  Today’s  winner Sargent and third place Byron both weigh heavy on the left side and are DQ’s.

Bobby Good inherits the win!
