Jays Deal with Indians

The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have acquired RHP Esmil Rogers from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for IF/C Yan Gomes and IF Mike Aviles.

            ROGERS, 27, posted a 3-3 record with a 4.69 ERA in 67 combined games between the Colorado Rockies and Cleveland Indians last season. The 6-1, 190 lb. right-hander has appeared in 114 career games (22 starts) with Colorado (2009-2012) and Cleveland (2012), registering an 11-12 record with a 5.95 ERA. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native has fanned 215 batters over 237.2 total innings.
            AVILES, 31, had been recently acquired by Toronto from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for RHP David Carpenter on October 21. The 5-10, 204 lb. infielder appeared in 136 games for the Red Sox last season, batting .250 with 13 home runs and 60 RBI.
            GOMES, 25, batted .204 with four home runs and 13 RBI over 43 games in 2012, his first season in the Majors. In 301 career minor league contests, the 6’2, 209 lb. right-handed hitter posted a career batting average of .287 with 37 home runs and 205 RBI. The native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, was selected by the Blue Jays in the 10th round of the 2009 First Year Player Draft.
