TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed defenseman Marc-Andre
Bergeron to a two-year, one-way contract today, vice president and general
manager Steve Yzerman announced.

“We are pleased to keep Marc-Andre in the organization,” Yzerman said.
“He played particularly well for us during the playoffs and his passing
skills as well as shot make him a valuable contributor to our team. We
look forward to having him at training camp.”

Bergeron, 5-foot-9, 198 pounds, appeared in 23 games with the Lightning
last season. He was signed as a free agent on January 4 and assigned to
the Norfolk Admirals of American Hockey League where he recorded two goals
and eight points in 13 games. Bergeron was recalled to the Lightning on
February 5 and spent the remainder of the season in Tampa Bay, recording
two goals and eight points, including one game-winning goal. He recorded
two assists in his Lightning debut on February 6 against St. Louis and
became the third player in franchise history to score his first Lightning
goal in overtime (Millar, Gagne) on February 12 versus Carolina.

A native of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Bergeron played in 14 Stanley Cup
Playoff games with the Lightning in 2011, recording two goals and three
points. He scored the game and series-clinching goal in Game 4 of the
Eastern Conference Semifinals, but he played the most during the Eastern
Conference Final against Boston, averaging 15:31 in ice time.

Bergeron has played in 422 career NHL games with the Lightning, Edmonton
Oilers, New York Islanders, Anaheim Ducks, Minnesota Wild and the Montreal
Canadiens. He has amassed 77 goals, 43 power-play goals and 202 points.
Bergeron has eclipsed the 10-goal barrier on three occasions since the
2005-06 season (2005-06, 15; 2008-09, 14; 2009-10, 13). Bergeron has also
played in 57 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, recording seven goals and
15 points.

Bergeron was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Oilers on
July 20, 2001.
