The latest Jays’ transaction sending Adam Lind to the Vegas strip and calling up Yan Gomes sets up Gomes to be the first Brazilian baseball player to appear in a MLB regular season game.

As to Brazilian players playing for the Jays here is a note for you- LHP Jo Matumoto of San Paulo, Brazil pitched in a spring training game for the Blue Jays on March 4, 2007 at Al Lang Field against the Devil Rays. Matumoto was the first native of Brazil to appear in a major league of any type. He could mostly speak Japanese not the native tongue of Brazil, Portuguese. His girlfriend or wife, I can’t remember which translated for him from English to Japanese and back  He did pitch in the minors for a while.

Ceasar's Palace anyone?Lind shown here during spring training this past March, heads to Vegas. (Eddie Michels photo)
