Love Him or Loathe Him, Randy is Still Randy…

Randy Moss has held our attention since the moment he crossed the national football landscape when he signed a letter of intent to play football for Bobby Bowden at Florida State in the mid-1990’s, and for good reason.

            The vastly talented wide receiver has re-defined the definition of ‘deep threat’ during his time between the sidelines, both on and off the field. So what are we really complaining about with his recent behavior during the 2010 NFL season?

            This guy has been a drama queen from the beginning. After being forced to leave the Seminole program and going on to obliterate records with Chad Pennington at Marshall University, he was then passed by the majority of NFL teams in the 1^st Round of the NFL Draft for ‘character issues’, then traded by the Minnesota Vikings for ‘character issues’, then traded by the Oakland Raiders for ‘character issues’, then traded by the New England Patriots for ‘character issues’, and then it all came full circle for Randy by being placed on waivers by the Vikings for, you guessed it, ‘character issues’.

            And now he’s supposed to give the Tennessee Titans that extra push to take them from being a ‘good’ AFC team to ‘elite’ status. Pardon me, while a chuckle.

            There’s a reason Randy Moss wants straight cash homey  and it isn’t because Randy feels he’s a franchise player. He knows he puts butts in the stands, and keeps eyes glued to the television set when the football is lofted up into the air in his direction. The fact is, he has been on the two most prolific offenses of each of the past two decades, and whether he’s mooning the crowd at Lambeau or squirting a water bottle at the referee, he is straight-up entertainment for the drama-seeking fans we are. And there is nothing more beautiful in a violent and passion driven NFL game than seeing him come down with a catch from  a Jets-Pats game.

            So don’t blame Randy for being Randy when it comes to the buffet at the Vikings luncheon, or running his vehicle up on the curb and taking out a few pedestrians in downtown Minneapolis.

            We, as fans, have fed Randy’s ego from the get-go, and believe me, it hasn’t been with food that Brett’s dogs wouldn’t even eat. So let ‘er rip Rusty Smith, he’ll come down with one of those tosses…eventually. We will all be waiting.
