The Blue Jays have acquired John Mayberry Jr.  from the Philles  for minor league infielder Gustavo Pierre.

Mayberry has hit .213 in 63 games this season with seven doubles, six home runs and 21 RBI in 122 at bats.  Has been on the disabled list since July 21 with left wrist inflammation and has appeared in nine games with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on a rehab assignment, batting .182 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI.  The Kansas City, Missouri native will be activated from the disabled list and join the Blue Jays in Tampa Bay.   In six seasons with the Phillies, the 6-6, 230 lb. right-handed hitter has posted a .242 career average in 500 games with 52 home runs and 169 RBI.

Due to MLB wavier trade rules, Mayberry will be eligible for the Blue Jays in the post season if they should qualify since the deal happened before September 1st.  And that will be big news since the Jays of the Great White North have not been in the post season since 1993.  You got, World Series Champs with Joe Carter.

Gustavo Pierre has hit .260 this season with 24 doubles, eight home runs and 43 RBI in 107 games between the Dunedin of the Florida State League (A) and New Hampshire of the Eastern League (AA) (Eddie Michels photo)
