DUNEDIN, Fl.–Originally scheduled to go two innings/35-pitches for Class-A Dunedin Saturday Toronto Blue Jays RHP Dustin McGowan lasted just 2/3 of an inning in his first rehab start.

“The important thing is that I felt good, that’s really all I care about right now,” said McGowan allowed three runs on three hits while walking one and striking out one on 33-pitches, 20-strikes.

McGowan last pitched in the majors on July 8, 2008 and since has been on the DL for right shoulder soreness, the remainder of 2008, a torn right labrum all of 2009 and a right shoulder strain all of 2010.  These injuries involved two arm surgeries and one knee surgery which he injured while rehabbing in 2009.

His time on the DL totals over half of his major league service time involving 1088 calender days.

Also McGowan spent from May 13, 2004 through September 20 that year when he was in Double-A for right elbow soreness.

“All I can do now is move forward, there was no pain” continued McGowan, “The only thing I was concerned about was how straight my ball was tonight.  We’ll fix that in the bullpen.”

McGowan, whose fastball was a consistent 94 MPH on the stadium radar, figures to make another appearance with Dunedin in 4-5 days.
