Muck City Fest by Tampa Bay Buccaneer James Lee

By on June 15, 2011

James Lee is Rocket Sports & Entertainment Network’s favorite Tampa Bay Buccaneer.  RSEN has been touting James for some time now because he is the prototypical athlete we would want on our team, a true team player.  We were speaking of James on the RSEN radio show back when the 2010 camp opened last July and he was fighting hard to make the team.  Not only did he make the team he fought he way into the starting line up to anchor the right tackle position.  An offensive that created an offensive explosion in front of QB Josh Freeman that was good enough to come one blown call from a playoff spot.  Think about it, the pass interference (NFL admits bad call) call against Kellen Winslow, Jr. is not made against the Detroit Lions the Green Bay Packers are not Super Bowl Champs.

James’ dream of making the NFL started when he was a young boy and that dream included a free camp fro the kids of his hometown.  This past Saturday, June 11th, 2011 was the second annual “Muck City Fest.”

Below is the press release courtesy of Kevin MeLellan of The Tyler McLellan Foundation and a link to the RSEN article from the first annual “Muck City Fest.”

Belle Glade, Florida – If you were in Belle Glade this past Saturday, you might have seen or heard the FHP cruisers with lights flashing and sirens blaring as they entered the last leg of there journey down Martin Luther King Blvd. to Lake Shore Park for the 2nd Annual “Muck City Fest”.  On board in the caravan was Belle Glades’ own James Lee of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and fifteen of his NFL friends coming to Lake Shore Park to host a free football camp for the kids.

This year’s event hosted 310 children to a free football camp with tee-shirts, pizza and drinks and the main highlight of the day, the 7 on 7 football games with the NFL players.  There was plenty to do as people watched the camp from the sidelines, younger kids played in the bounce house, while some cooled off in the water slide, or were seen playing on the fire truck from PBC Fire in Belle Glade, and others walked around  sponsor row for the free giveaways they were offered.

There were also a variety of vendors from selling chicken wings, jerk chicken, sno-cones, fruit and candy to custom jewelry and clothing.  Non profits such as the Palm Beach Mariners Football Club, Palm Beach County Guardian Ad Litem, and Palm Beach Sheriff’s Domestic Violence Unit were also in attendance distributing their literature on services they offer to the community.

With Feeding South Florida and the James Lee Children’s Foundation partnering at the 2nd Annual “Muck City Fest” 2011, the partnership was a total success.  Both organizations were on a mission to feed the people of the Belle Glade community.  Elaine Bain(James mom) said, “Today we helped 850 families with the distribution of 17,863 lbs of food to those who need it, this is a wonderful thing.”  We also saw Mayor Steve Wilson, Commissioner Greer and his mother working the line and greeting the residents.

Sonny’s BBQ of Clewiston was also showcasing their new 30 foot BBQ grill. General Manager Chris Carr says, “This new unit is 30 feet long and can cook 500 ½ chickens or 200 full racks of ribs at one time. We are looking to use this as an off sight unit being able to feed five hundred people at one time.  This is the perfect unit for large corporate groups, weddings and festivals.” Carr added,  “These are the events we want to be involved with, this is a wonderful day for the kids and the community and we are proud to be a part of it.”

Mike D. of Belle Glades’ WSWN Sugar 900 said, “Look at these kids, they are all smiles, no fighting and these kids are playing hard trying to impress the NFL players, their having a ball out there”

The music was great all day and the kids loved it.  DJ’s for the event were none other than the hottest Hip Hop DJ’s in radio
