A recent press release from Eldora Speedway and NASCAR announced the Camping World Truck Series will return NASCAR to the dirt on July 24th, 2013 when the series will run the inaugural “Mudsummer Classic” on the high banks of Eldora. This will mark the first NASCAR sanctioned touring series event to be held on a dirt track since 1970.

Three time Nascar Sprint Cup Champion and the man that owns Eldora stated, “Eldora typically hosts 10 different touring series every year, and we are very pleased to add NASCAR to this list.” Steve O’Donnell, the vice president of racing operations for NASCAR added, “We have been looking to get the trucks back on the short tracks, back to the roots of racing, including the dirt, and NASCAR is very excited that the trucks will race at Eldora in 2013.”

Eldora Speedway located in Rossburg, Ohio is well known to the dirt track racing community hosting national touring series like the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, and the $50,000 Kings Royal. Eldora also hosts the largest paying Dirt Late Model race in the nation, The Dirt Late Model Dream where the winner walks away with a cool million.

This newest event, The Mudsummer Classic will make history, and should be a positive step forward for the sport, it will bring the diehard NASCAR fan back to the dirt track, and should spark a new interest from those that live, and breathe dirt track racing.

Rossburg is located in Western Ohio 54 miles northwest of Dayton just 110 miles from Indianapolis.  And, Columbus, Indiana the birthplace of Tony Stewart,  is less than an hour south of Indianapolis.
