DUNEDIN, FLA.–Toronto Blue Jays long reliever Todd Redmond went 5 1/3 innings yesterday in his final tune up prior to the season starting against a squad of Yankee minor leaguers at the Mattox Complex.
“Everything is good and getting ready for the season, getting it rolling,” said Redmond, “I’m not going to Montreal so I will just come out here and play catch a little bit.”
As to his next game action Redmond said, “The next time could be the regular season, I will be the long reliever.”
Redmond allowed two runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out seven on 90-pitches, 66 for strikes with a consistent 89 MPH fastball.
Drafted in 2004 by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the MLB amateur draft, Redmond is from St. Petersburg, Florida playing in high school at Northeast Christian and college at St. Petersburg College.  Redmond was 4-3 last year with the Blue Jays posting a 4.32 ERA in 14 starts and 3 other appearances.

Redmond, not making the trip to Montreal, so the next he pitches the stats will count in the regular season. Maybe in the opening series in hometown St. Petersburg vs. the Rays? (EDDIE MICHELS / PHOTO)
