Pink Eye = No Five

Brewers-High-Five

Dug Out View - headphones-baseballOne of baseballs greatest traditions has been banned in the Milwaukee Brewers clubhouse. The organization will not allow high-fives until a recent outbreak of pink-eye is under control. Catcher Jonathan Lucroy, one of the teams best players, and pitching coach Rick Kranitz reportedly came down with the illness over the past few days. Both player and coach have been put on a team-imposed house-arrest for 48 hours.

Unlike they were in this 2014 photo, Brewers will not be high-fiving each other for a while.

When asked about the situation, Manager Ron Roenicke had an interesting comment:

“We’ve been going through it for a while”

If the issue has in fact been a problem for an extended period of time, Roenicke may soon be under fire for not addressing the issue sooner.

Remember, in 2013 the NFL came under fire when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were investigated for several incidents involving a MRSA outbreak. This situation does not appear to be on the same level as that of the Bucs but don’t be surprised if the MLB front-office steps in to ask questions.
