The 2015 season is winding down, and many fantasy owners’ thoughts have turned to football…but there are still plenty of opportunities out there for the savvy fantasy baseball manager. Let’s have a look at a few players who could be available in your fantasy league, and who could make a difference in the season’s final days.

Hitters:

Greg Bird, 1B, New York Yankees: With Mark Teixeira out for the season, Bird has stepped up in a big way, smacking eight homers and plating 18 RBI in 20 games in September. Bird will swing and miss a lot, but his plus power and sound batting eye should give him plenty of fantasy relevance as the season winds down.

Tommy Pham, OF, St. Louis Cardinals: Pham has been a huge part of the Cardinals’ offense recently, batting .346 with four homers and 13 RBI in 19 September outings. The 27-year-old Pham has managed only a .258 average over his 10 minor-league season, so his current hot streak figures to be short-lived, but he makes a good addition to your fantasy roster while he’s going this well.

Angel Pagan, OF, San Francisco Giants: Pagan is batting .309 with three homers and five stolen bases in September, and he has hit safely in 17 of his 21 games this month. Pagan is owned in only about 20 percent of Yahoo leagues, but he could be a nice source of runs, stolen bases and batting average the rest of the way.

Pitchers:

Darren O’Day, RP, Baltimore Orioles: Baltimore closer Zach Britton is nursing a strained oblique muscle, and O’Day has converted saves in each of the Orioles’ last three victories. Britton’s return date has not yet been determined, and it’s possible that he could be shut down for the duration of the season. O’Day owns a stellar 1.44 ERA and 0.91 WHIP this season, and he should be owned in most fantasy leagues as long as he’s closing games for the O’s.

Cody Anderson, SP, Cleveland Indians: Anderson missed a big chunk of August while recovering from an injured oblique, but he has forged a 4-0 record, 1.69 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in five September starts. Anderson’s next outing figures to be against Minnesota during the season’s final series, and he looks like a decent daily play if he indeed receives the nod.

Robbie Ross, Jr., SP/RP, Boston Red Sox: The Bosox bullpen has been something of a hot mess ever since Koji Uehara was lost for the season in early August, but it appears as though Ross has emerged as the team’s ninth-inning man. The news isn’t all good, though: Ross owns a pedestrian 4.06 ERA and 1.30 WHIP this season…but he has reeled off five consecutive saves. If you’re chasing saves, consider adding Ross to your fantasy plans.

That’ll do it for this week; good luck in your fantasy leagues and we’ll talk again soon.
