It remains to be seen whether the Colorado Rockies give in to Troy Tulowitski’s trade demands. However, if General Manager Jeff Bridich waits until after the MLB First Year Player Draft, the picture may become more clear.

On June 8th, the Arizona Diamondbacks will be the first team to make a selection in this year’s draft. The consensus number one prospect is high school shortstop Brendan Rodgers. In previous draft classes the consensus top prospect has fared pretty well in the big leagues. MLB.com columnist Jim Callis gives you a look at such examples.

So how does this help Colorado?

Several sources have said that Arizona will not select Rodgers with the first selection.

The Houston Astros have the number two pick. The Astros currently have MLB’s number three overall prospect, shortstop Carlos Correa. It appears that Correa won’t be ready for regular big league duties until 2016; he’ll be a staple in Houston once he arrives.

By default, the Colorado Rockies may luck out and land the most talented player in the draft. Oh yeah, and it’s at a position that needs to be addressed soon. Tulo, to trade or not to trade, that is the question.

Don’t expect Bridich to make much noise between now and the June 8th draft. If he’s able to land Brendan Rodgers however, expect the rumor mill to heat up.
