RSEN Keys to Game 3

By on May 3, 2011

The Tampa Bay Lightning find themselves in the perfect position to put a stangle-hold on the Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference Semi-Final.  Coming home to the arena formally known as the Ice Palace up 2 games to none the work is far from over.  One would think no way, there is no way the Bolts can have a 3 games to none led after tonight… or is there a way?

This will be a tougher win then the first two even though those games were on the road.  There needs to be  different variables tonight if the Lightning are going to take a 3 games to none lead which will have the nails lined up on the proverbial coffin.

1. As I said before game 2, stay aggressive and do not worry about taking penalties.  The Bolts PK remains amazing and that is being accomplished through hard work.  Hard work is consistent and will continue in game 3.

2. Power play production.  The Bolts have generated offense with the man advantage; with the talent the Bolts boast up front they need to make it hurt when the Caps take penalties.  Game 2 was frustrating for the Caps because their penalities hurt and the they were unable to take avantage when the Bolts went to the sin-bin.

3.  In game 2 the defense did not give the puck away in their own zone.   The Lightning has been winning the puck battles in their own zone which is due to them just wanting this series more to this point.  Can the Lightning keep up this tenacity in game 3?  If they do watch out Capitals.

4.  I mentioned on Sunday the big four (4,26,91,6) needed to get on the score-sheet.  They did.  Marty St. Louis and Vinny Lecavlier combined for 3 goals and 4 assists including Vinny’s OT game winner at 6:19 of the first OT.  Look for Ryan Malone and/or Steven Stamkos to lite the light.  Combine that with a goal from Steve Downie, Sean Bergenheim or Dominic Moore and line up the nails… 3 games to none Lightning.

5. Hold Washington to 3 goals or under tonight, 3 games to none.

The Capitals will play their best game of the playoffs tonight, I am not feeling confident I believe they will score four or more.  I want to be wrong.

But he best thing is…we do it again tomorrow night.  I like it, old school, back to back nights.
