Storm Resign Wasil and Serini

By on October 25, 2012

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Storm is pleased to announce the return of quarterback Stephen Wasil and center Brad Serini, as both players agreed to two-year deals.  The exclusive period runs until midnight October 28, during which time teams have exclusivity dealing with players from its previous season’s roster.

“We are excited to have both Stephen and Brad return,” said vice president of football operations Jeff Gooch. “Each of them, Stephen and Brad, showed tremendous growth this past season and will help to make us competitive for the upcoming season.”

Wasil (6-foot-3, 220 lbs., Albion, MI) agreed to a two-year contract that runs through the end of the 2014 season.  In his first season with the Storm and as a full-time starter he started 14 games leading the team to a 7-7 record.  Wasil was the first quarterback in Storm history to eclipse 300 yards passing in his first career start for the franchise.  He went on to finish the season with 3,664 yards passing with 71 touchdowns and 17 interceptions as he completed 60.1% of his passes (294-of-489).

He also led the team in with 140 yards rushing and 19 rushing touchdowns.  Wasil’s 19 scores on the ground is the second-highest single-season total in team history and second most by any player in the AFL during the 2012 season.  On July 14 versus the New Orleans VooDoo, and exciting 78-77 overtime victory at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, Wasil tied a franchise single-game record as he was responsible for 10 touchdowns in the game, seven via the air and three on the ground.

“I am excited to come back to Tampa Bay and build on the progress made during last season,” said Wasil.  “Having the opportunity to work with the same coaching staff and a core group of players from 2012 brings a feeling of cohesiveness and confidence for the upcoming 2013 season.”

Serini (6-3, 315, Florida International) agreed to a two-year deal.  He was the only player to appear in and start all 18 games for the Storm in 2012, despite beginning the season with a broken hand.  The former FIU standout finished his collegiate career with the Panthers as the only player in the school’s history to play in and start every single game during his tenure.

AFL free-agency begins Monday, October 29 at 12:01 AM.  Teams will be free to sign any player excluding those that ended the 2012 season on injured reserve and have not yet been medically cleared.

The Five-Time World Champion Tampa Bay Storm was awarded the 2012 AFL Support Staff of the Year.  2013 season tickets are now available for more information call 813.301.6600 or visitwww.tampabaystorm.com.
