In just five days, the South Florida Bulls will step onto the manicured green grass of Marlins Park for their first bowl appearance in five years.

For Coach Willie Taggart, the bowl game is vindication of not only his off-season coaching moves but also part of the vision that he laid out when he took over a downtrodden Bulls program three years ago. “When I came here, my vision for this football program was to win championships in a first-class manner,” said Taggart.

Taggart knew it would be a long road but his patience with the program and the players never wavered. “The young men in our program believed in what we are building and committed themselves to the hard work, energy and team-first attitude needed to achieve their goals and set the program on an exciting path.”

The Bulls this year finished the season ranked in the top half of the American Athletic Conference in every major statistical category including Total Offense (5th), Total Defense(3rd), Rushing Offense (2nd), Rushing Defense (5th) and Pass Defense (3rd) to name a few. They even finished 15th in FBS with 90 total tackles for loss.

A victory over Western Kentucky in the Miami Bowl would be another step in the right direction for Taggart and the Bulls. “We want to win this ballgame and get the program to nine wins,” left guard Thor Jozwiak said. “That will tie the most wins ever out of the USF football team. We definitely want to get the nine wins. We want the ring that says champions on it.”
