Tampa Yankees 7 Dunedin Blue Jays 0 Tampa Wins Series 2-0

DUNEDIN, Fl.—The Tampa Yankees eliminated the Dunedin Blue Jays two games to none in the FSL Northern Division Playoffs early Thursday morning with a 7-0 win.

 Plagued by rain delays, including the game’s start, Tampa got one run in the first off starter and loser Joel Carrano before the showers started again.

 Tampa added four more in the fourth off Frank Gailey before the skies opened up yet again.

 “It was one of those days where conditions were horrible,” said Tampa Manager Torre Tyson, “But we took advantage of it, putting the pressure on them.”

 Trent Lare got the win as four Tampa hurlers held Dunedin to just five hits.

 Tampa took the first game of the best of three in Tampa on Tuesday by a 3-0 score limiting Dunedin to just eight hits over the two shutouts.

NOTES: With a split season played by the Florida State League teams take on a different makeup from not only opening day but also when the second half starts through the playoffs.  According to Tampa Manager Tory Tyson he has only two starting position players left from opening day.  Also he has lost five starting pitchers and five relievers called up since the first half.  On the Dunedin side Manager Clayton McCullough said they have eight different position players and five different pitchers since the season’s first half. …During a lengthy rain delay in the top of the third no expense was spared getting the water off the field.  The Yankee clubhouse was raided and Gatorade Towels were used to mop up water puddles in the outfield.   “We wanted to play tonight and it was one of those things where we were trying everything we could to get the game in,” said Tyson.  The total of the three rain delays for the game was two hours and 28 minutes with the game not being completed until early Thursday morning at 12:16 AM, five hours and 16-minutes.
