THE OTHER SIDE OF SPORTS (TOO) November 2012

By on November 16, 2012

Well campers the election process is over for another four years, Veterans Day has come and gone for another year and Thanksgiving Day is fast approaching.  So why then is Bright House Networks “Sounds of the Seasons” channel (433) already playing Christmas music?

Ah the sweet mysteries of life that befuddles us year in and year out.  That sounds like a song title doesn’t it?

Now there is one important item that I did notice this past election and that is the lines waiting to vote.  Gee that last three times I saw people that well behaved standing in line for something was when they were in line for food stamps, unemployment or welfare checks.  I wonder if you noticed it too?

Now to the trade between the Blue Jays and Marlins and it appears that new Marlins manager Mike Redmon took his pick from the Jays minors.

You see fans Redmon was the manager for lower long season Class-A Lansing in 2011 for the Jays followed by upper Class-A Dunedin in 2012.

So he had an up-close and personal look at the talent, a bit of insider trading wouldn’t one think?

As you have probably noticed that there has been no hockey at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, formally the St. Pete Times Forum this season.  Gee two months ago this columnist and Rocket Sports warned you-all not to get your hopes up.  Well fans again it’s proven that if Donald Fehr is involved the show won’t go on.

Now just a passing thought as to where Fehr got his start in unionism and it might have been the International Workers of the World (I.W.W.)

Back in the early part of the last century the I.W.W. actually went by another name according to some people and that was they were “The I Won’t Work Boys.”

Enough said EH?

Now in closing this issue fans congratulations go out to Ken Carson and Darold Knowles.

Knowles, a supporter of the Dunedin Children’s Christmas Fund, smiles at Dunedin Country Club on Saturday November 10, 2012. Knowles played in the Children’s Fund golf tournament held every year in Dunedin. (Eddie Michel photo)

Carson was inducted into the Florida State League Hall of Fame on November 13 and Knowles will be taking his place in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on December 5.

Our heartiest congratulations to both classy gentlemen, so until then…
