CLEARWATER, Fla. – Pitcher Jarred Cosart and catcher Sebastian Valle have been chosen to play in the 13th Annual XM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday, July 10, 2011 in Phoenix, Ariz. The game is part of the Major League Baseball All-Star Weekend and will be televised at 6 p.m. on ESPN 2 and MLB.TV.

Both players were selected as Florida State League All-Stars earlier in the month and this will be Cosart’s second selection to the Futures Game roster, having garnered honors last season.

Cosart, 21, is 6-4 with a 3.16 ERA in 13 starts this season. The League City, Texas native is coming off a stellar month of May in which he went 4-0 with a 1.95 ERA. Listed as Baseball America’s fourth-best Phillies prospect, Cosart has an electric arm and was one of four Threshers pitchers selected to represent Clearwater in the FSL All-Star Game. He was unable to participate in last year’s Futures Game because of an injury.

Playing for the World Team will be Los Mochis, Mexico native Valle. Opening the season at just 20 years old, Valle has settled nicely in the middle of the lineup by hitting .343 in 41 games for the Threshers. He currently has three home runs to go with his 22 RBI as well as 10 doubles and a pair of triples. Baseball America has Valle slated as the Phillies sixth-best prospect.

Each team will feature a 25-man roster which was selected by Major League Baseball, MLB.com, Baseball America, Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau, and the 30 Major League Clubs. Any player from a full minor league affiliate was eligible for selection and all 30 teams have at a representative in the game.
