Un-striked Out – The Other Side of Sports Too

By on December 7, 2021

Clearwater, Fla.–Believe it or not fans on August 11, 1994 when the rest of the major league players were set to go on strike on August 12th one player took the trip to the minors.
Yes fans one Domingo Cedeno of the Toronto Blue Jays ask to be sent to their Triple-A affiliate the Syracuse Chiefs for a good reason.  Cedeno said after arriving in Syracuse that he requested to be sent down because he needed the money.  An item he never expanded on.     Well Cedeno hit a weak .196 with Toronto over 47 games in 1994 but improved to .288 with Syracuse in 22 games which included the governors cup final.      Since Cedeno was still in the Toronto system so he wasn’t a replacement player during spring training in 1995 and eventually spent the entire shortened regular season with Toronto hitting .236 over 51 games.      It isn’t know what other players said to Cedeno or how they treated him because of wanting to be sent down but he did keep getting a salary during the strike even if it was a lower rate.     After talking to fans since the season ended they are hopeful that the whole 162 game season is played in 2021.
