USA Rugby South Men’s Club D2 & D3 Championship Comes to Lakeland

 Lakeland, FL (April 26, 2011)- Tampa Bay Krewe Rugby and Polk County Tourism & Sports Marketing will host more than 500 rugby players and fans for the USA Rugby South Men’s Club D2 & D3 Championship in Lakeland April 30-May 1. Eight Top-Level Rugby teams will be competing with hopes of qualifying for the National Championship Round, which will take place on May 21-22 in Virginia.

The South Championship Semi-Finals will be taking place on Saturday, April 30 and the Championship Games take place on Sunday, May 1. The South Championship will be held at Lake Parker Park in Lakeland. The top two teams in each division will progress to the “USA Rugby National Round of 16” May 21-22 in Virginia.  The “USA Rugby National Final Four” will take place on June 4-5 in Glendale, CO.

Below is the schedule for the South Championship:

 

April 30, 2011

  • Game 1, Noon:  Ft. Bragg, NC vs. Gainesville, FL
  • Game 2, Noon:  Columbus/Ft. Benning, GA vs. New Orleans Green
  • Game 3, 2pm:  Tampa Bay Krewe vs. Alanta Old White
  • Game 4, 2pm:  Greenville, SC vs. New Orleans Gold

May 1, 2011

  • Game 1 winner vs. Game 2 winner
  • Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner

 

USA Rugby was founded in 1975 and is a member of the United States Olympic Committee and the International Rugby Board. Rugby will be an Olympic sport in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
