Tampa, Fla. – – Maybe there is more to this mental game in professional sports then we think. Since Ben Bishop was moved to the bright lights of Tinsel Town Andrei Vasilevskiy has been on fire. Coming into tonight before facing the best in the West, the Minnesota Wild, Vasilevskiy is 3-1 with 131 saves and a 1.25 goals against average. And the loss was a 1-0 OT loss to the NY Rangers! Tonight was just the next chapter in what should be the biggest goal-tending story in the NHL.
Tonight for Vasilevskiy would be no different then his previous four game, 32 saves and another win. The goal against was not even close to a goalie fail.
Nikita Kucherov got the show started for the Lightning at 6:53 in the first period, he ripped the puck past Devan Dubnyk on the Lightning’s first of three power plays.
At 11:01 compliments of #77 Victor Hedman the Lightning go ahead 2-0 with assists to Jonathan Drouin and Jake Dotchin. The second period came to an end with the shot count even at 9, but a great feeling for the home team leading 2-0. part of the chapter, Andrei Vasilevskiy made some absolutely unbelievable saves.
The second period brought about a lot of activity. Vladislav Namestnikov and Tyler Johnson both left the ice with lower body injuries, to not return tonight. The obvious seriousness was neither Namestnikov or Johnson putting weight on both skates as they left the ice. The Lightning were down to 10 forwards and 6 defensemen, thanks to the versatility of Luke Witowski.
Andrej Sustr notched his second goal of the season at 4:37 and Tampa went ahead 3-0 and the way this team was playing it looked infallible.
Marco Scandella knocked one in for the Wild when a Mikko Koivu shot careened off Jason Garrison and Scandella was able to get good stick on the puck.
The Lightning killed off four Minnesota power plays tonight and converted 1 of 3.
