MONTEREY, CA (Sept. 14, 2011) – Zach Veach’s successful season with Andretti Autosport has yielded him the opportunity to compete in one final race for the team in 2011—the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, on the heels of being named by ESPN The Magazine as a NEXT athlete. Veach will be driving the #77 Team Zakosi Data Backup car and will be joined by his best friend and teammate Sage Karam.

“With the 2011 USF2000 season being finished, I have 100% of my focus now on Star Mazda and their last race of the year at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca,” said Veach. “My No. 77 Zakosi Data Backup and I finished our first Star Mazda race in 7th place at Infineon Raceway. I’m really going to be fighting to finish better than that this coming race weekend; I’m setting my sights on a top-five finish! I would really like to thank Andretti Autosport again for this opportunity.”

The 16-year-old racing phenom Veach is currently part of the developmental ladder program sanctioned by INDYCAR. The “Mazda Road to Indy” offers varying levels of racing to young drivers, including the USF2000 National Championship, where Veach recently closed his 2011 season fourth in series’ points. The Star Mazda Championship is the next highest level in the program that Veach has continued to strive toward. He will receive a chance to race at this level at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, following a top-10 result at Infineon Raceway earlier this season. Team principle Michael Andretti has a lot of faith in the young Veach and is proud to have been able to offer him this honor.

Earlier this year, Veach took two race wins and three pole positions to capture the inaugural Cooper Tires presents the USF2000 Winterfest Championship and opened the season with a win from the pole position at Sebring International Raceway. Veach impressively finished within the top-10 in all of his races this season in the USF2000 National Championship Series, which led to his team, Andretti Autosport, capturing the team championship.

Veach will cap his summer season with a race one rung up from his regular gig within INDYCAR. With such a successful season both on and off the racetrack for this young racer slash philanthropist, he closes the book on 2011 with a huge grin on his face, ready for what 2012 will bring. The opportunity at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will serve as a final proving ground for moving up the ladder and Veach is absolutely committed to making this race – just like any other – count.

Practice for the Monterey, California Star Mazda race begins Friday, Sept. 16, at 8:00 Pacific time with qualifications set for Sunday, Sept. 18, at 8:00 a.m. and the race at 10:40 a.m. Pacific time, respectively.

Also with Veach at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will be his USF2000 mechanic, Ron Weaver, who was awarded the 2011 USF2000 Mechanic of the Year award at the USF2000 National Championship awards banquet following the inaugural INDYCAR event on the streets of Baltimore.

“I would also like to congratulate my mechanic Ron Weaver for winning the USF2000 Mechanic of the Year award, it is well deserved,” continued Veach “I have to thank him for everything he’s done for me and all the time he has spent away from home with his family.”

Zakosi Data Backup, sponsor for the #77 car, offers fast, affordable, secure, managed and unmanaged online data backup to small to medium-sized businesses. In addition to Zakosi, Retail Pro,, ADS IT Solutions, Arai Helmets and OMP Racing are partners on the #77 effort.
