DUNEDIN, Fla.–Shortstop Omar Vizquel said Thursday after workouts that, “This could be my last season.”

“I don’t think that the money was an issue for me to come play this year,” said Vizquel, “When you play this long that is the least worry you got.  Obviously it’s important because you understand the economy and the money part of the game. It was more of a pride that they (Toronto) called me and want me to be on their team.  I was really excited to know that there were like four teams during the off season interested in bringing me back to a major league uniform and finally I decided to come to the Toronto Blue Jays.”

Through 23-major league seasons Vizquel, who turns 45 on April 24, has 2, 841 hits ranking him fourth all time amongst switch hitters, 39 behind Hall of Famer Frankie Frisch.

Vizquel also ranks first in fielding percentage (985) for shortstops playing over 750 games.

“He has always handled himself with class,” said Toronto Manager John Farrell of Vizquel, “Knowing him from his days in Cleveland he is someone who never took a game for granted.  Always loved to play the game…and the way he played the position of shortstop.  Now to be in a position to impart those experiences on some young players it’s a benefit for all of us here in camp.”

Farrell also noted that all players will be in camp on Friday even though full workout doesn’t begin until Saturday.
