Spring is here, which means it’s close to a major holiday for Floridian rockers. Moster Energy’s Welcome to Rockville has become a staple over the last five years. It brings together all the elements of rock and roll culture for two days in Metropolitan Park in Jacksonville. This year’s event will once again be in late April on Saturday April 30th and Sunday May 1st and the crowds are expected to be in the 40-50,000 range throughout the weekend.

This year’s lineup features 46 bands that blend both old and new. Household names like Z.Z. Top, Megadeth, Disturbed, Shinedown, Rob Zombie, and 3 Doors Down lead the way, with a mix of established names and rising stars to compliment them.

The festival is a virtual “who’s who” of modern hard rock stars, including Bring Me the Horizon, Asking Alexandria, Lamb of God, A Day to Remember, Five Finger Death Punch, and We Came as Romans.

The Bands

Z.Z. Top has found a way to capture headlines since the 70s, with everything from Brett Favre-themed jeans commercials to frontman Billy Gibbon buying insurance on his famous beard. They look to add new fans in this arena full of metalheads and keep their bluesy sound going across multiple generations.

Disturbed recently entered into rock and roll royalty, joining Metallica as the only metal act to record five straight platinum albums. They have recently been touring in support of their latest album, Immortalized, and seek to build on their successes from the previous two decades.

The enigmatic Rob Zombie was a highlight at Rockville 14’, and fans are hoping for a repeat of that dread-swinging performance. Speaking of dreads, this will be an appetizer for Rob’s Return of the Dreads tour with Korn and In This Moment, which is scheduled to kick off this fall.

A Day to Remember is another legacy from 2014, where they turned the crowd into a sea with their “crowdsurfing on a crowdsurfer” trick. The band attracts a huge group of fans that create a great atmosphere, riding their friends like surfboards. Despite their heavy tinge, A Day to Remember puts on a happy show that creates a feeling of togetherness among fans.

Metalcore powerhouses Bullet For My Valentine and Asking Alexandria come to Rockville fresh off of their co-headlining international tour. The pair of British acts are both currently promoting their newest record – BFMV with Venom, and AA with The Black. Though it results in a hectic schedule, the timing couldn’t be better for both bands to gain fans around the globe.

Among the up and coming bands on the docket sits Beartooth. The Ohioans almost took home hardware at last year’s Alternative Press Music Awards as the best Breakthrough Band. They parlayed that fame, as well as a great showing on last year’s Warped Tour, into thousands of new fans across the country. If they continue on this trajectory, Beartooth might be the headliner in a few years.

A pair of very different, but equally headline-grabbing lead singers rounds out the lineup. Lacey Sturm (formerly of Flyleaf) and Tyler Carter (Woe is Me, solo work) will be taking their vocal talents to Rockville.

Strurm is jumping back into the fray with her first solo album Life Screams. The former hard rock diva has changed her look, but still retained the pipes that made her a hit with Flyleaf. She has also stayed committed to the faith-based message behind her original work, with Life Screams qualifying as a Christian record.

Tyler Carter has always had his hand in multiple projects, but the most consistent has been his work with Issues. After winning Alternative Press’s Artist of the Year award in 2015, and recording a ton of singles, the band comes to Rockville with the promise of their second album. The much-anticipated album, titled Headspace, has no official release date.

Though most artists are of the headbanging variety, there are some wildcards thrown in the mix. Rap fusion group P.O.D will be there, as well as rapper Yelawolf, who often lets his southern roots show by crossing genres. The biggest surprise is old school rap group Cypress Hill, famous for their track “Insane in the Brain” among others.

Ghost and Sevendust are also on the bill coming off their Grammy nominations.

The Experience

For sports fans, there is an exclusive contest that blends both worlds. The Jacksonville Jaguars “Rock and Jock” promotion lets four fans enjoy both events like kings. It provides four VIP passes to Rockville and a meet-and-greet with Shinedown on the “Rock” side, and four Jags suite tickets, an invite to their inclusive draft party, and some free swag on the “Jock” side. The contest is free to enter, and can be found at

There’s also a Keep Golf Metal mini golf event, which is described as “A movement that encourages festival attendees to play a 9 hole putt putt course with PGA level golf clubs provided by Rife Putters and MasterFit Custom Golf Clubs. Keep Golf Metal also has apparel that features designs that fuse the rock and golf world together.” The event will no doubt be hilarious, as tattooed rock fans playing mini golf would be interesting to watch.

Multiple food-related events will be at the festival as well, including a sampling of “Gourmet Man Food”. GMF features feasts for the dude in all of us, including burgers, pizza, seafood, and barbecue. If it’s high in taste and in calories, you’ll find it there.

There will be no shortage of alcohol to go along with the food, as reps from both the tequila and the whiskey industries will be on hand. Jack Daniels will have their mobile museum, where fans can learn about the best-selling whiskey in the world. As for the best tequila, Rockville let’s you make that selection for yourself as part of their Tequila World. At this station, you are able to pick from one of 9 international tequilas to toss back as you enjoy the show.

In addition to the bands and other experiences, Danny Wimmer Presents and their staff do their best to give the fans the best and safest festival experience with lockers and charging ports also available.
