It’s not often that a local band plays back-to-back packed shows at Jannus Live. But there isn’t a local band quite like Underoath. The Tampa based Metal band ended a nearly 1 month North American tour Sunday night on hometown turf. The final two stops of the ‘Voyeurist’ tour was a weekend residency at Jannus Live In downtown St. Petersburg. And they didn’t come alone, the stacked line up also included Spiritbox, Bad Omens and Stray From The Path.

The night kicked off with the unique sound of Long Island punk hardcore band Stray From The Path.

The set started with two of their most well known songs, ‘The House Always Wins’ And ‘Outbreak’.

They ripped through a heavy 8 song set. Vocalist Andrew Dijorio jumped into the crowd for ‘Badge & A Bullet’.

Next up was Richmond, VA Metalcore band Bad Omens.

They didn’t interact with the crowd much. Instead, let the heavy riffs speak for itself. Most of the setlist was off their 2022 album release ‘The Death Of Peace Of Mind’.

Next was Canadian Metal band Spiritbox, who has catapulted in popularity as of late. After opening the set with their 2019 single ‘Rule Of Nines’ and ‘Circle With Me’, vocalist Courtney LaPlante told the crowd that this is the first full tour the band was able to complete in full. She thanked Underoath for having them on tour and also thanked Stray From The Path and Bad Omens and dedicated the next song, ‘Blessed Be’ to them.

The energy from the crowd was up the whole night to this point. Spiritbox then took it to the next level with ‘Hurt You’ and ‘Constance’ from their latest album ‘Eternal Blue’.

Courtney took a look at the crowd, surprised by how many new faces were here for night two. “It’s so special for Underoath to have the following to sell out two nights in a row with different crowds.” It was clear how much this tour meant to the band. Before the final song of the set, ‘Eternal Blue’, Courtney took a moment to thank everyone who was involved in making the tour happen. “We’ll never forget this moment. This isn’t like another day in the office for us. This is special.”

Next up was the main event of the night. The crowd was buzzing in anticipation for the hometown band to take the stage. The set kicked off with ‘Damn Excuse’ from their latest album ‘Voyeurist’, followed by ‘Breathing In A New Mentality’ and ‘On My Teeth’. Making it known from the start that although this tour is named after the latest album, the set list was going to include favorites from the past.

The set was fast paced, with few pauses for rest. Vocalist Spencer Chamberlain took a moment to check in on the crowd. “I know it’s a Sunday but we’re having fun! We were here last night and want to see what night is better!” Then the start of ‘Reinventing Your Exit’ began and the entire crowd lost their minds.

It had been almost 900 days since the last Underoath tour. Spencer told the crowd, “It feels so nice to be back home. We’re having the time of our lives and thank all of you for showing up and loving us so much to be here two nights in a row.”

The set ended with ‘Pneumonia’, but the crowd wanted more. Everyone stayed and chanted for one more song before the band came back out and said they have two more. Spencer told the crowd they’ve had a crowd surfing competition for the first encore song all tour. He challenged the crowd to be better than last nights. They then went into ‘Thorn’ and the crowd surfing began. In the four and a half minutes the song lasted I counted 99 crowd surfers. Which apparently was “pretty good” and top 5 of all tour.

Spencer asked if the crowd was ready for the last song of the tour. Mike from Spiritbox joined on guitar as Underoath closed with “Writing On The Wall’. The perfect end to the band’s first tour in nearly 900 days.
