“Tyler’s Team” Charity Poker Classic A Success

Rocket Sports & Entertainment Network is working with The Tyler McLellan Foundation on bringing a Poker Tournament to the Tampa Area.  The tragic plane crash happened here in Tampa.

The Tyler McLellan Foundation was started after the McLellan’s lost their 15-year old son in an “Angel Flight” plane crash in Tampa on July 17, 2008.

Wellington, FL –   Kevin and Karin McLellan of Wellington they have done just about everything

to raise money to help keep South Florida kids in youth sports.  They have sold Miami Dolphin tickets, auctioned sports memorabilia on E-Bay, held two celebrity basketball games, last year a Dolphin Fan Fest, Monday Night Football Fundraiser, then a friend and supporter mentioned a Poker tournament. 

On Sunday March 27th former and current players from the NFL, along with local celebrities played poker for charity.  Tampa Bay Buc’s James Lee and Errict Rhett, NY Jets Emanuel Cook, Miami Dolphins Jim Jensen &  John Bock, Florida Panther Trainer Gus DeMoulin, Philedelphia Phillies Jeff Juden, ESPN 760 J-Mart along with a team of players from Cool Live Poker.com. were all on hand to play poker for the kids.  Celebrity emcee for the event was WPTV Channel 5 anchorman Jim Sackett.

The afternoon included a beautiful buffet, a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction with several items which included: various autographed hockey sticks from the Florida Panthers, autographed baseball from Marlins pitcher Josh Johnson, an autographed guitar by all members of Journey. 

Tom Clawson of Boca Raton was the lucky winner for a pair of tickets to the “Super Chevy Show” at Palm Beach International Raceway April 8th-10th  (he donated  the tickets back to the foundation to help the kids)

Players that knocked out the celebrity bounties were each given gift cards to various local restaurants.    “Karin and I weren’t sure what to expect for players being our inaugural year” said Kevin McLellan, president of the foundation.  “We are very happy as everyone had a great time and we raised money for the kids.  Today was a successful day for the foundation”. McLellan added.

The event was presented by the Palm Beach Kennel Club and sponsored by The Shirt Guru, MD NOW, and ESPN 760am.  We also want to thank: Duffy’s Sports Grill, Alabama Joe’s Sports Grill, Palm Beach International Raceway, DICK’S Sporting Goods, Motor City Car Wash, Quarterdeck Restaurant, Applebee’s, and Edible Arrangements. 

The Tyler McLellan Foundation was started after the McLellan’s lost their 15-year old son in an “Angel Flight” plane crash in Tampa on July 17, 2008.  Since then, they have done everything they could to raise money for youth sports in South Florida.    The foundation is geared towards rewarding perseverance and not allowing a family’s finances to hold players back.
