One of the Blue Jays’ biggest acquisitions this off-season was outfielder Michael Saunders. Unfortunately for the Jays, he has yet to make an appearance with the big league club.
Recovering from a meniscus tear in his left knee, he is currently rehabbing with the Single-A affiliate, Dunedin Blue Jays. His return date is unknown since it depends on how he feels, especially since he was unable to participate in spring games.
We’re putting together a schedule that’ll get me there [with the Blue Jays] for the first game against Atlanta.
Saunders played in his third rehab game on Saturday night, making his first start in left field. He has collected three hits in 10 at-bats for the D-Jays, two of his hits have gone for extra bases.
“This is kinda my spring training now so I gotta make sure my legs are underneath me.” Saunders is eligible to join the Blue Jays as soon as the organization feels that he is healthy.
When asked about what it was like playing with the younger guys Saunders spoke of his leadership style.
“I’ve played with guys that have led by example…I feel like that’s the right way to go about it, and be a leader.” Saunders said. He went on to talk about the guys he played with, both in the minors growing up, and while with the Mariners. One thing is for sure, he is excited to join the team he grew up rooting for.
