The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have optioned RHP KYLE DRABEK to Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League (AAA), and have selected the contract of RHP ZACH STEWART from New Hampshire of the Eastern League (AA).
STEWART, 24, has made 12 starts for the Fisher Cats this season, posting a 4-3 record with a 4.39 ERA, and in his last three starts is 1-0 with a 2.37 ERA. The Wichita Falls, Texas native was acquired in the Scott Rolen trade along with INF Edwin Encarnacion and RHP Josh Roenicke. In 2010 the 6’2” right-hander recorded an 8-3 mark with a 3.63 ERA in 26 starts with New Hampshire.
DRABEK, 23, has appeared in 14 games this season with Toronto, all starts, going 4-5 with a 5.70 ERA, while the club posted a 9-5 record in his starts. Acquired along with C Travis d’Arnaud and OF Michael Taylor, the Eastern League pitcher of the year in 2010 will join the 51s in Las Vegas.
