[media-credit name=”admin” align=”alignleft” width=”150″][/media-credit]Tampa, Fla (RSE) – Dan Ellis and the Tampa Bay Lightning shook off the jet lag from the West Coast by beating the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-0 last night at the venue formerly known as the Ice Palace.

The Lightning got out to fast start by scoring 3 of their 4 goals in the first.  Steven Stamkos got it going at 11:10 with a one-timer on a feed from Marty, while Vinny had the other helper.  The power-play goal was Stammer’s 12th of the season.

Less than a minute later, Nate Thompson netted a blue collar goal as he wristed a rebound home from on the edge of the crease.  Randy Jones took a blast that came off the cross bar, hit  Leafs goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere in the back and bounced  onto Thompson’s stick who was working gritty in front of Leafs net.

Dominic Moore closed the 1st by deflecting the puck past Giguere off a Randy Jones shot.   For Moore his 5th of the season and more importantly Moore inked 15:31 of ice time after missing games with that nagging groin strain. I Told You So, You’ll Like Moore…  Marty St. Louis led all Lightning skaters with 22:07 of ice time.

Early in the 2nd period Mike Brown and Nate Thompson squared off in the Leafs end with Brown getting the best of Thompson.  This is the second fight in a row the Lightning did not fare well.  Ryan Malone was pounded Saturday in Silicon Valley by youngster Jamie McGinn.  I still miss “Z”, I don’t care about systems, the Bolts are 2-3-1 against the “tough guy” west.  (Just my little side gig)

Stamkos added number 13 in the 3rd and nonetheless Ellis was tremendous stopping all 28 Maple Leaf shots.  The Lightning was 5 for 5 on the penalty kill and accomplished what they needed to do before they head to DC for the first meeting of the year against the Caps.
