goal by Nikita Kucherov and a 10 minute misconduct by Crosby and the rout was on. Steven Stamkos (power play) and Yanni Gourde (even strength buzzer beater at 19:59 after video review) add goals and at the end of the first twenty minutes and a 3-0 lead at the intermission seemed like ten.
Even strength goals in the second by Brayden Point, Anton Stralman and Kucherov’s second of the game and the Bolts had a touchdown lead (Roberto Aguayo missed the extra point) the Lightning take into the 2nd intermission locker room.
Mikhail Sergachev scored his third goal of the season, a power play goal two seconds over the halfway point of the third to give the Lightning a 7-0 gaping lead driving the Amaile Arena sellout crowd into an even more frenzy.
The game was hi-lighted by a 28 save near shutout by Andrei Vasilevskiy. The puck seemed watermelon size like to Andrei Vasilevskiy who all night saw the puck well with Pittsburgh finally lighting the light with 1:42 left on a power play when Jake Guentzel banged in a rebound. When Vasilevskiy was asked if he was seeing the puck well tonight he said, “Our guys doing a pretty good job in front of me.”
All grit and hustle Ryan Callahan was a machine on the penalty kill. Callahan with two short-handed breakaways the first a great stick play to deflect the puck from a passing lane and the second drawing a penalty as he sped in on Pens goalkeeper Antti Niemi. Asked about the moments of the game during the penalty kill Callahan said, “It gets you in the game, it makes you feel good.”
Steven Stamkos had a game high four points (1 goal, 3 assists). Stamkos said, “When you got a guy like Kuch (Nikita Kucherov) on your line…he’s hot, you just try to get him the puck.” The line of Stamkos, Kucherov and Vlad Namestnikov has been unconscious now with 44 points in in nine games to support the Lightning to a 7-1-1 record their best start in franchise history.
The Lightning go on a one game roadie at Carolina Tuesday the 24th, then back home vs Detroit on Thursday the 26th.
